Opening doors to the future, innovation, and dialogue at STUMMER
At the end of October, everything at STUMMER in Bischofshofen was focused on appreciation, interaction, and openness – both toward decision-makers and toward the local community.
Two special events offered the opportunity to experience the factory, the people, and the ideas behind STUMMER up close.
Distinguished Guests from Vienna
Great excitement in Bischofshofen: We had the pleasure of welcoming Peter Haubner, Second President of the National Council of the Republic of Austria, to our factory!
He was accompanied by Kurt Katstaller, Director of the Economic Association, and Mayor Hansjörg Obinger, who together gained an impression of the innovative strength and technical precision made in Bischofshofen.
After a company presentation—from STUMMER to the ZOELLER GROUP to KIRCHHOFF Ecotec – the focus shifted to the future: the presentation of our new Hall 5 building and the ongoing expansion of the company.
During the subsequent factory tour, guests were able to see for themselves the passion, expertise, and sense of responsibility that goes into the production of our vehicles – vehicles that ensure clean cities and communities in Austria and far beyond.

“The visit by National Council President Haubner is a great honor for our team and our work. It shows that regional industry and Austrian innovation are also recognized and appreciated at the national level,” said Johann Streif, Managing Director of STUMMER.
Open House: A Look Behind the Scenes for
Just a few hours earlier, the announcement had already been made: Doors open at STUMMER! To mark the anniversary of “25 years since Bischofshofen was granted town status,” we opened our factory gates to all interested citizens.
Many took advantage of the opportunity to take a tour of the factory and see for themselves the production process and the people behind it.
Because we are convinced that the future can only be created by working together.
That’s why we open our doors not only to political decision-makers, but also to our neighbors, families, schools, and the skilled workers of tomorrow.

This shows how sustainability, resource conservation, and recycling expertise are put into practice – day after day, right in the heart of Bischofshofen.
Bischofshofen is our home – it’s where the heart of our company beats. We’re excited to show our neighbors and friends what happens every day at STUMMER,” said Johann Streif.
Living Responsibility Together
Whether during the visit from Vienna or the tour with local residents, both events demonstrated how important openness, dialogue, and regional solidarity are for sustainable development.
Only when politics, business, and society pull together can we work toward a future in which innovation and environmental protection go hand in hand.

Branch expansion in Bischofshofen
When you walk across the STUMMER grounds in Bischofshofen, you immediately sense that something is happening here. The first major expansion began in 2019 with the groundbreaking ceremony for the new production hall 4, and now the next big development step is underway. Following the comprehensive renovation of the existing halls, the construction of new painting, grinding, and washing halls, and the complete switch to renewable energy sources, the project is now continuing—right next door.

The new assembly hall will become the heart of chassis preparation and the so-called “ wedding” between the body and the truck. It not only creates space for four preparation areas and a separate assembly area for prototype construction, but also a parking space for customer deliveries. Overall, the factory premises are growing by an impressive 7,500 m² – providing everything that modern vehicle production needs.

Logistics will also be simplified: all transfer trips to the previous interim storage facility will be eliminated in the future. Chassis deliveries by car transporter and superstructures from the ZOELLER plant in Poland will arrive directly at the new site. Around 85 new truck parking spaces, dedicated access roads, a weighbridge, charging stations with superchargers, and a parking management system that is directly linked to production planning ensure smooth processes and minimal maneuvering.
Special attention is being paid to noise protection and good neighborliness. STUMMER places great importance on minimizing the impact on local residents—both during the construction phase and later during operation. Solutions were developed during the planning phase to minimize noise emissions and harmoniously integrate the site into the existing environment.

STUMMER is also making progress in terms of energy: with the expansion of its photovoltaic system and a 200 kWh battery storage unit, the company will be around 90% energy self-sufficient in the future. Additionally, an air heat pump will be used for the first time to heat the industrial floor—another step toward sustainable production.
The project was planned in an open, transparent process together with the residents of Bischofshofen—and met with broad approval. Construction is scheduled to begin in October 2025 and be completed in May 2026.
With the new hall, STUMMER is not only strengthening its location in Bischofshofen, but also its function as an innovation driver in municipal vehicle construction – more efficient, more sustainable, and neighborly in the best sense of the word.

Travel connects
Travel brings people together – this also applies to the history of STUMMER. Back in the 1980s, when traveling to distant countries was still a greater challenge, employees, customers, and friends of the company set off together. Until 2004, the legendary STUMMER Müllstammtisch trips took them to exotic destinations around the globe. And even after that, factory tours remained an important fixture – most recently in 2014, at the opening of the ZOELLER TECH factory in Poland.
Eleven years later, it was finally time for another open house: The largest factory in the ZOELLER GROUP opened its doors to our clients and provided us with an exciting insight into the world of modern waste collection vehicle manufacturing.

From humble beginnings to a flagship project
The plant in Poland started off modestly in 1998 – today it is a prime example of continuous development and technological strength. Under the long-standing leadership of Managing Director Rainer Rohler and his team, the site has developed impressively: almost 1,000 employees work here in two shifts, producing around 1,800 vehicles per year. These are sold as kits or fully assembled, not only on the Polish market but also throughout Scandinavia.
Technology put to the test
Before a new model starts going into production, it goes through some tough stress tests at ZTE: on their own test bench, it’s put through maximum loads that go way beyond what you’d see in real life. Only if it passes these tests does it proceed to series production. This guarantees safety – and is one reason why we can say today: the X series is the best waste collection vehicle you can buy.
Modern manufacturing meets tradition
Since its opening in 2014, the plant has undergone significant changes: it is now twice as large, partially automated, and equipped with state-of-the-art technology. At the same time, the pioneering spirit of the early years is still evident—a combination that results in unparalleled quality.
For STUMMER, this means that we purchase around 280 superstructures as CBB or SKD kits from Poland every year. Final assembly then takes place at our premises—a well-coordinated process that guarantees the long-term reliability of our vehicles.
A detour to Gdańsk

Of course, the cultural side of things couldn’t be neglected either: a short trip to nearby Gdańsk was part of the itinerary. Half-timbered buildings, the harbor, and the city’s special atmosphere made the visit another highlight of the trip

More volume, more payload
Anyone who drives a collection vehicle daily knows the challenges: narrow streets, full routes, and the need to achieve maximum results with as few trips as possible. This is exactly where the new MINI series from STUMMER comes into play—with a clever increase in volume and payload, packaged in a modern, functional design.

The smooth-surfaced collection container has been raised by around 200 millimeters, yet still protrudes only minimally above the driver’s cab. The result: two additional cubic meters of volume with the same body length – a real plus in everyday use. At the same time, the body’s own weight has been reduced by around 500 kilograms. This means up to 15% more payload. A combination that is unmatched in its segment – and an absolute USP of the new MINI.
STUMMER has also made considerable upgrades to the rear section of the MINI series: numerous detailed improvements ensure greater efficiency and comfort during operation. The ZOELLER OMEGA 359, which was developed specifically for the MINI series, is also on board and adapted for the MINI. New features such as the folding chute (also available in a hydraulic version) and the modern joystick control with proportional hydraulics make the team’s work noticeably easier.
And flexibility is maintained: depending on requirements, the ZOELLER Rotary can be mounted on the new MINI series in either a narrow or wide version. The MINI XL can of course also be fitted with the ZOELLER DELTA 2325.
With the new MINI series, STUMMER proves once again that innovation of the smallest details makes all the difference – for local authorities, waste disposal companies, and above all for the people who work day in, day out to keep our environment clean.

Hannes Streif, Managing Director of STUMMER: “With the new MINI series, we are demonstrating how compact design and increased performance can be combined. More volume, more payload, and numerous detailed improvements make the MINI a reliable partner in our customers’ everyday lives. Our goal was to make the work of crews on the road noticeably easier—especially where space is limited and efficiency matters.”

Innovation on tour
The moment new vehicles depart from the factory is always special—for us and our clients alike. Each vehicle transports the experience, passion, and technology from Bischofshofen into the everyday practice of waste management. This time, the vehicles were delivered to several locations—from Vorarlberg to the Salzkammergut—demonstrating the diversity of modern waste disposal solutions available today.
Loacker Recycling – Precision in action

STUMMER and Loacker Recycling have enjoyed a close partnership for decades – and the story continues. Three new washing combinations of the Waschbär, Medium X4, and Delta 2322 types will ensure clean results and accurate billing in the future: thanks to total structure weighing and a container identification system, emptying can be precisely assigned – right down to the individual households. The vehicles are built on DAF chassis and are used at several Loacker locations in Austria and Germany. STUMMER has been supplying Loacker since 1979 – back then with roll-off and skip tippers. Today, Loacker is active in eight countries, and we are delighted to be part of this evolution.
Buchschartner – pioneer in organic farming and e-mobility

In the photo (from left): Robert Streif, Norbert Buchschartner, Helmut Strasser and Roland Buchschartner-Mierl.
Based in idyllic Mondsee, Buchschartner is one of STUMMER’s long-standing customers—and a pioneer when it comes to combining organic waste collection and cleaning. The first X4 with guard equipment has now been handed over, supplemented by the first electric MB eActros with Medium X4 and Delta lifter. For the company which offers all waste disposal services from a single source, e-mobility has long been part of everyday life – another step towards sustainable municipal collection.
Energie AG – Experience with e-power

Electric mobility has also long been a reality at Energie AG. Two MB eActros trucks with Medium X4 are already in use, with two more to follow shortly. A modern charging infrastructure has been created for this purpose at the Redlham site—with powerful fast chargers that ensure daily operations. Head of Logistics Peter Kitzmüller and Sales Manager Helmut Strasser are delighted with the successful initial deployments—a valuable contribution to the further development of e-mobility in waste management.
Bad Aussee – Tradition meets technology

Full Power on the Tarmac – STUMMER Vehicles join Vienna Airport’s Fleett
Freshly delivered and already in service: two new waste collection vehicles from STUMMER are now reinforcing the waste disposal fleet at Vienna Airport. With state-of-the-art technology, high payloads, and a clear focus on efficiency and sustainability, the vehicles are ideally equipped for daily use at one of Europe’s largest airports.
Amidst the hum of jet engines and the rumble of rolling suitcases, a new dynamic duo is quietly stepping up operations behind the scenes at Vienna Airport. Two brand-new STUMMER MEDIUM X4s have joined the lineup—bringing cutting-edge waste logistics straight to the runway. With advanced technology, smart energy management, and impressive payload capacity, these vehicles show how efficient and sustainable waste collection can be—even in high-intensity, 24/7 environments like an international airport
Built on the trusted Mercedes-Benz Econic 6×2 chassis, the trucks feature a trailing axle and a compact wheelbase (12.8 + 4.4 feet), perfectly suited for narrow lanes and the tough demands of airport operations.
The latest STUMMER MEDIUM X4 body is equipped with a beam lifter compatible with container sizes from 60 to 1100 liters (in line with EN standards) and a spacious 22 m³ collection box. Thanks to an integrated compaction system delivering a 1:5 ratio, the vehicles are ideal for efficient residual waste collection.
Smarter Collection, Higher Capacity
A standout feature: a newly developed payload optimization system that allows recyclables—like cardboard, paper, and plastic—to be compacted more efficiently. The result? Up to 25% more payload capacity, all while reducing working pressure from 230 bar (3300 psi) to just 130 bar (1900 psi). That translates into lower energy consumption, reduced fuel use, and a smaller environmental footprint—without compromising performance.
A 25-Year Partnership Still Going Strong
STUMMER and Vienna Airport have built more than just trucks over the past 25 years—they’ve built trust. This long-standing partnership continues to thrive, based on mutual respect and shared standards of excellence.
Two older STUMMER MEDIUM XL models, also built on Mercedes-Benz Econic chassis, have already been in service at the airport and continue to prove their durability and performance day in and day out.
“Our partnership with Vienna Airport has been going strong for 25 years, and we’re proud to support such a high-demand operation,” says Johann Streif, CEO at STUMMER. “Selling a vehicle is one thing—but keeping it running smoothly under heavy daily use is the real challenge. That’s where our commitment truly shows.”
Built to Perform, Engineered to Last
This latest delivery reinforces STUMMER’s position as a reliable partner for customers with demanding operations. These trucks are modern, eco-conscious, and highly efficient—exactly what today’s waste logistics call for. And as for Vienna Airport? By continuing to count on STUMMER, it’s once again underscoring the long-term value of quality and partnership.

One of the greenest fleets in Austria
Zellinger GmbH, a specialist in waste disposal and recycling based in Upper Austria, put its first fully electric trucks into operation in May 2025. This makes the company one of the industry’s pioneers when it comes to e-mobility in heavy goods transport. While others are still hesitating, the company is already driving emission-free – and with enthusiasm.
The family-owned company from Walding has been active in waste management, transport, and excavation for over four generations—and has been a loyal STUMMER customer, driven by heart, mind, and a strong sense of sustainability, since the 1980s. Today, nearly 30 STUMMER compactor bodies are in operation at Zellinger, including 17 of the iconic X4 models—true benchmarks in modern waste disposal.
Now, with the delivery of four brand-new STUMMER vehicles, Zellinger is taking another decisive step toward zero-emission waste collection. The future doesn’t roar—it hums quietly.
“Electrifying our fleet is a logical step toward decarbonization,” says Managing Director Jürgen Humer-Zellinger. “We’re not just looking to meet legal standards; we want to take real responsibility—both ecologically and economically.”
All-Electric Powerhouses
The new fleet includes four Medium X4 bodies with ZK 2322 lifters, mounted on fully electric Mercedes-Benz eActros chassis. Three are robust 3-axle trucks, while one is a compact 2-axle version—a perfect balance of power and maneuverability. The difference? Just the volume of the 2-axle truck. The body and lifter remain identical across all four—STUMMER quality, through and through.
With over 130 employees, this long-established company now boasts what is likely the greenest fleet in Upper Austria. In fact, Zellinger currently operates the region’s largest electric-powered fleet featuring the X4/Delta automatic system—a powerful statement for sustainable waste management.
Powering the Future—Independently
One more unique aspect: Zellinger’s electric vehicles don’t rely on just any power source—they run on 100% self-generated electricity. Zellinger is the first and, so far, only waste disposal company in Upper Austria to power its electric fleet using energy derived from its own biogenic waste. At its in-house biogas plant, organic waste is converted into electricity, heat, and liquid fertilizer for agricultural use.
The new e-trucks are primarily used for municipal collection routes and offer a range of up to 300 kilometers per charge. They also meet the highest safety standards currently available, equipped with state-of-the-art assistance systems, including turning assistants to protect pedestrians and cyclists, emergency braking systems, and rear-view cameras.
“Introducing e-trucks is part of our comprehensive sustainability strategy,” explains Jürgen Humer-Zellinger. “We’re already focusing on smart waste management, digital route planning, and energy-efficient operations. Looking ahead, we’re also exploring additional alternative drivetrains such as HVO100 and hydrogen.”
More Than Just Machines: A Shared Vision
STUMMER and Zellinger share a partnership that spans more than four decades—a relationship built not only on horsepower and payload but also on shared values: quality, innovation, and a forward-thinking approach to waste management. It’s this spirit of collaboration that continues to drive both companies toward a cleaner, more sustainable future.

Vehicle delivery to customer Brantner
For around 6 months now, twelve new STUMMER vehicles have been on the road for Brantner green solutions – customised to meet the needs of the Krems-based waste management company’s circular economy.
Twelve vehicles in 24 months – we can easily manage that anyway! But the STUMMER team is a little proud of these. Because the MEDIUM XL and X4 for Brantner green solutions are by no means off-the-shelf products. “We customised them to meet Brantner’s individual needs,” explains STUMMER Production Manager Robert Streif. In general, the collaboration with Brantner has been a very fruitful one for years and is characterised by an ongoing exchange of experience and many reciprocal impulses.
Brantner green solution has now expanded and modernised its fleet with the collection heroes for a wide variety of applications. The delivered fleet includes two-, three- and four-axle vehicles with different types of containers: from 120-litre containers to 7-cubic metre skip containers, but also a beam container for hand loading of bags as well as vehicles with ZOELLER Delta automatic lifters, which empty 2-wheel containers particularly efficiently.
Laser without show, but with a lasting effect
Our laser-controlled payload optimisation system is an eco-hero in a class of its own. In all MEDIUM X2 and X4 of the new generation, it controls the discharge wall and regulates the pressure. The result: ideal, homogeneous compaction of the collected recyclables. The ejection plate is readjusted with every load. This means that the payload can be increased by 20 per cent when collecting fractions such as plastic and lightweight packaging. At the same time, the hydraulic pressure for compaction has been reduced by 30 per cent. This is not only much more economical, but also more ecological. The higher payload means that fewer collection journeys are needed to cover a disposal area, which also reduces CO₂ emissions and fuel consumption. Robert Streif: “That pleases us, the waste disposal company, the customers and especially the environment.”
